Points and places of interest in the Charente region

We fell in love with the region because it is truly unspoilt France, with interesting and attractive architecture, a moderate climate, lots of history and very friendly people.

Having spent over 22 years living near the Mediterranean, a move to the Charente, or anywhere else, was not considered until we visited Domaine Les Granges.

There is a feeling of space, which you do not find in many tourist regions of France. The area never seems crowded, even in the summer. Gently rolling hills dotted with churches and small villages and within easy access of the ever-changing Atlantic coast.

Domaine Les Granges is special, everyone who stays here agrees.

There is a atmosphere of peace and everyone relaxes as soon as they arrive.

We actually prefer the climate to that of the Mediterranean, where the summer afternoons are often so hot, you have to stay in shuttered rooms and wait for an evening breeze.

Here you can enjoy and explore the area all day.

Charente Maritime has a history of the sea and ships, trading with far away countries and the wealth of the cognac business.

The river Boutonne, which flows just below our land, was once used to transport the cognac barrels to La Rochelle, for shipping to England.

Many people who holiday at Domaine Les Granges are attracted by the sport facilities; squash, gym, etc. For others it is a gentle walk to the market, or a bike ride along the river.
